Dear Funny Picture people,
I will have the honor of speaking at the Charles M. Schulz Museum on
Saturday, August 11 in Santa Rosa, California as part of the 5-year
Anniversary celebration of the Museum. Mr. Schulz was truly the driving
force in my decision to become a cartoonist. I was lucky enough to have
spoken to him on the phone  over 27years ago. I hope some of you can make
the trek up to Santa Rosa in August! But if not, I'll have a booth in Artist
Alley at the San Diego Comic Con this year, so stop by and say HI. By the
way, this will be my 33rd year in a row attending the Comic-Con. I guess
I'm showing my age?! :)

Best wishes, and I'll see you in the Funny Papers!
Jorge Pacheco

Dean LeCrone's Sneak Preview
 Toon-In Movie Party!
 Hey gang, Dean LeCrone here...
Spring is upon us, and that means it's time for our annual SCCS Toon-In
Party!  Yes, we're talkin' Wednesday May 9th!  Whoohoo!
I'm organizing the party this year, and once again, we'll be convening at
Jack White's Magic Place--mingling, eating, drawing and drinking.  But the
main event of the evening will be the first ever-public screening sneak
preview of my movie "Dean LeCrone VS the Mutants of Comic-Con.”
I shot the film last year with my pal Allen Freeman at the San Diego
International Comic-Con.  The movie is a reality comedy/interviewing
mockfest-- poking fun at our favorite comic book convention.  Still
confused?  Well read on, the following synopsis may help:

Follow the adventures of cartoonist and actor Dean LeCrone as he journeys
through the largest pop culture event in the world:  The San Diego
International Comic-Con!  See what madness and hilarity take place behind
the doors of the biggest comic book convention on the planet as Dean
LeCrone interviews, dances with, and jestfully mocks the hippest, coolest
(and the not so hip and cool), costumed freaks, geeks, babes, spazoids, and
comic book nerdboys.  With fellow artist Allen Freeman behind the camera,
"Dean LeCrone VS the Mutants of Comic-Con" features a cavalcade of the
most delightfully eccentric comic book convention mutants ever assembled!

I hope that little overview whets your appetitive enough to join us.
However, some of you may be asking, "But Dean, I can't make it to the
May 9th Sneak Preview Toon-In Party!  So how will I be able to see your
hilarious cult classic film?"
Well stifle those anxieties cine-philes, there's a reason why I'm calling our
party a "Sneak Preview.”  And that reason is-- trumpet fanfare please:
On Saturday evening June 2nd, I am having an official theatrical premiere
screening of my movie at the historic Mission Theater in beautiful downtown
Fallbrook.
I am a member of the Fallbrook Film Factory.  The group is a cinematic
consortium for actors, writers and directors.  Basically, it's kinda' like
SCCS, but without all the pens, brushes, and paint.
The Film Factory is going all out and treating the evening just like a real
movie premiere, complete with limo, a red carpet, photographers and
hopefully, a large turnout of audience members.
I will be on mic hosting the premiere's events, which will not only showcase
my movie, but preceding my film, we will be showing several short animated
and/or comics-pop culture related films.
Plus-- calling all costumed crazed mutants-- we will be holding a costume
masquerade contest for which there will be a prize or two.
Following the premiere, there will be a post premiere meet and greet
party.  In the planning for the party will be an art show featuring me and
Allen's work, caricature artists to entertain and delight guests with their
amazing artistic talents!
And of course, my good friend Elton John will be on hand to provide music.
Ok, just kidding obviously about that last part.  But you never know, we may
kick the party up a notch, throw on some cds and do a little dancing.
More details about the movie premiere (like tickets prices, showtime, etc.)
will be announced at the Toon-In Party.  I will also be sending out a mass e-
mail with details.  You can also call me at 858-472-9470.  Karyl Miller and
Jack Zabawa might even be kind enough to let me promote the premiere on
that wonderful SCCS website that you all know and love  www.sccsonline.

So regardless of whether or not you're attending our  May 9th Sneak
Preview Toon-In Movie Party, everyone is welcome to come down (or up) to
Fallbrook on June 2nd, for a fantbulous, red carpet drenched, mutant
infested, Comic-Con inspired, fun-filled movie premiere!
See ya' soon!  Dean.

June 6 - Priscilla Smith -
I live in Salem, in is western Kenosha county. It is in a lovely neighborhood
in view of a scenic small lake ..... not far from  Antioch, Illinois. We are
just across the border here in Wisconsin. That is the area where my family
came from and where most still live. Both of my parents were born in
Wadsworth (outside of Antioch and about 30 miles west of Waukegan). I
came back to this area to be by my family. I felt my daughter would never
see her relatives again if we stayed in California. I do, however, really miss
being there and sometimes wonder if I did the right thing. But now that
I've invited my parents to live with us, I (for the most part) realize this
was a good decision. They are so sweet, but have a little trouble doing
things as they are getting on in years. My dad is 88. He reads to my
daughter from the James Herriott books (All Creatures Great & Small,
etc.) He helps me with the garden. My mom is an artist and also loves to do
crossword puzzles, just like me. So we are happy campers. (But I do, so
much, miss our old friends.)

Keep on keepin' us laughin' ....
Priscilla
