Everything You Wanted to Know About Yahoo Groups but Were Afraid to Ask
By Karyl Miller

Dear Fellow Cartoonists,
A few months ago I implored, nay, begged you to all sign up for our SCCS
YahooGroup.  Main reason: it’s the simplest, fastest way to distribute an Email
message to the members.
Some new people signed up.  Yeaaaaahh!  Some people love the YahooGroup and
others… not so much.  Here are a few very recent posts:

Karyl,
oh, how I wish I didn't receive every E-mail sent by every SCCS member!  Can't
someone do something to change our system?  (Hope this doesn't go to everyone.
(Name withheld)

I agree!
(Name withheld)

I, for one, disagree.  Reading all these e-mails about unpaid dues and sick cats is a
tonic for me, having moved away from SD and SCCS meetings.  It's sort of the like the
good old days, sitting at the Broken Yolk, listening to all the chitchat about the tough
meat and the evening's raffle.  I only wish there was a little more professional chit-chat
about markets looking for cartoons, agencies reviewing portfolios, new software,
exciting collectors' finds, exhibitions, art supplies on sale, new galleries or stores
opening, classes being held, and so forth.  It's the easiest thing in the world to hit the
"delete" button, which I imagine many people who are reading this will.
Rick Marschall

All input is most appreciated and taken under advisement and no, I did not pay Rick
Marschall for his message.  I’ve added a link to the bottom of all Group messages
leading to the main sccsOnline Group home page (which should help clear up
confusion).

There are still a few misconceptions about how the Yahoo Group works and so, here
are some FAQs.

PLEASE CUT OUT AND SAVE.

Q. How can I respond to the sender of the YahooGroup Email but NOT the entire
group?
A. Do NOT automatically hit REPLY.  Read the top of the Email where it says FROM.
The name and Email address of the sender appears.  Add the sender’s Email to your
address book and simply reply privately.

Q. How can I contact to a member individually if I don’t have his Email address?
A. All Yahoo Group members Email addresses are listed (accessible ONLY to us) on
the MEMBERS page on our Yahoo Group Site.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sccsonline/

Q. How do I send out an Email to everyone on a NEW topic?
A. Hit the link on the bottom of any Group Email that says Start a New Topic OR
A. From the Homepage hit the link Messages, then hit Post a New Message and give
it     an appropriate title.

Q. I’m getting too much YahooGroup Email.  How can I get meeting notices only?
A. Delete any Email with a subject other than SCCS Meeting

Q. I’m not getting YahooGroup Emails even though I signed up.  Why?
A. Go to our YahooGroup website
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sccsonline/
Edit your user settings.  Make sure you checked Receive Individual Emails.
       Save the Changes.
A. Check your Email program (Outlook?) spam filter for Blocked Addresses.  See if
your  OWN address is listed as blocked and delete it from the blocked addresses.  OR
A. Add
sccsonline@yahoogroups.com to your (Outlook?)  Address Book.

Q. I just don’t want to interact with everybody, but want meeting info.  What’s the
alternative to receiving YahooGroup Email and Evites?
A. Check our regular website regularly
