I finally found the time to actually read the Slice this morning.
Your rendition of the Comic-Con is hysterical. I laughed out loud at so many parts...and would have laughed even more...but, even your exaggeration doesn't mask the truth of the massive inconvenience that its success has generated. I too now only attend one day, because it has become so difficult to park and navigate... even before discussing two dollar bottles of water and five dollar stale sandwiches.
As someone who has attended since Shel was in charge and it was at the old (Biltmore?) hotel...then moved to the old convention center... and now the Megalomania facilities ... things have also changed...which are not the fault of the Comic-Con...just the shifts in the comics industry. The olden daze of affordable artwork, ruffs, cels... are gone. I remember when original cells filled 3 x 6 tables and slid over the tops of each other...selling for maybe 4 bucks apiece, 3 for ten bucks. For $25 I bought original Hanna Barbera cells with an original painted background ( Not a match to the cell, but they work together.) I have a few Peanuts Specials cells, with the matching pencil drawing. Oh, I guess I paid maybe five bucks for each set. And more....
But, you can't go back home, Dorothy. (Sound of clicking red slippers in the background.)
I'm with you on the Con thing. I've loved it for years but last year it jumped the shark. This year I won't be having a table, won't be staying downtown, and won't be going all four days. I will probably just drive down for Thursday when things are light and leave it at that. I might go to the SCCS meeting and if Greg did another BBQ I'd be up for that.
It's a shame but it's a little out of control and the space can't hold it all anymore. Maybe the rumors of moving to Vegas will play out.

Karyl, you are one funny lady, but listen!...there is no way am I hauling my a** all the way from Quebec to San Diego for Comic-Con when you went and stuck my age group ( I'm 45 ) into Day 3, when everyone's invited! Hope you have a sweltering time anyway!
